DreamCatcher to Play Ball Too

Ghost Players

Last month, Denise Stillman invited the Ghost Players to return to play at the field, the whole field, starting July 7th and to keep coming back every other Sunday, weather permitting.

We are happy to announce the Joe Scherrman from DreamCatcher Productions will be heading up our sound controls again, just as he did for so many years before.

Joe is tickled to be asked back the field and anticipating living down his Clueless Joe nickname.

Ghost Players Archive Ready to Go On Deck

Ghost Players

The Ghost Players originated with the pro ball players in the movie Field of Dreams. Since the movie’s 1989 release, they have played exhibition games, performed comedy routines, and conducted kids’ baseball clinics on the Field of Dreams and at ballparks around the world. The Ghost Players Video Archive Collection consists of almost 60 hours and more than 6,000 clips of the Ghost Players and their travels between 1989 and 2008.

These files were honed out of the 600+hours of original footage that were shot over 18 years of Ghost Players.

Each file in the collection is tagged and named with source tape identity and date (if known). In addition, a team of interns spent many months applying search words to each clip.

Ghost Players

Steve Braker was the expert archivist who guided the interns in their quest to concur the mammoth number of digital and VHS files.

These are currently available in separate data fields for people involved, location, specific activities, and in many cases short descriptions and transcripts. The keywords make it easy to search the database.

The Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. Like a paper library, they provide free access to researchers, historians, scholars, the print disabled, and the general public.

The Archive's Moving Images library includes movies, films, and videos. This library contains over a million digital movies uploaded by Archive users, which range from classic full-length films, to daily alternative news broadcasts, to cartoons and concerts. Many of these videos are available for free download.

Simply Synergy

Ghost Players

Former Major League Baseball player and manager Pete Rose, also known as "Charlie Hustle", is pictured in the movie poster to the right of Actor/songwriter/ musician Rob Cuniffe.

One of the great things about making films is the way filmmaking is so interconnected.  Rob Cuniffe is a Dubuque native who sang in the high school choir with the children of Ghost Player’s newsletter editor. After college, Cunliffe donned the White Sox stripes to help promote the documentary “Ghost Player: Relive the Magic” when it screened during the LA All-Sports Film Festival.

This fall, Rose will play ball at the Field of Dreams as part of the “Team of Dreams” event for Mystique Casino and MAB-Celebrity Services on Saturday, September 14. This landmark event will feature 13 of the greatest baseball players of all time. They'll play a historical game at the Field of Dreams on Saturday the 14 and then sign autographs and more back at Mystique. Check out the others in the line-up! Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench, Field of Dreams Movie Site owner Wade Boggs, Jim Rice, Frank Thomas, Jim Palmer, Rod Carew, Bruce Sutter, Carlton Fisk, Ozzie Smith, Dwight Gooden, and Paul Molitor. This is a ticketed event by Mystique. Tickets will be very limited and available shortly on the Mystique website. Watch our page and their site for details. Who knows, maybe we will be able to get Cunliffe to come back and have a catch or play some tunes with Rose and the other Hall of Fame ballplayers.

Ghost Players

Recently, Rob Cunliffe was in Dubuque in May celebrating the premieres of the Lake Delhi: We Will Be Back documentary. Rob wrote the documentary’s finale song We Will Be Back and his band Almost Classy has included the song on a special release of their debut self-titled CD, Almost Classy. Congratulations Rob, the song is great and so are the Doc and CD
And just to take another look at synergy, the award winning Lake Delhi documentary was produced in association with DreamCatcher Productions and Joe Scherrman. Scherrman used the expertise he gained in crafting the documentary about the Ghost Players and provided some of the footage of the catastrophic levee breech, storm and flooding featured in the film.

Friend on Letterman

Ghost Players

When Ghost Player Tony (center) Scherrman's son Mathew (yellow hat) needed medical help, his friend Thomas Irby (on left) helped raise much of the funds needed to cover the medical expenses. He also introduced the Scherrman Clan to an excellent musical talent - Dale Watson.

Soon after meeting Watson in Texas, Scherrman's father Joe was filming Watson at Dubuque's Vintage Torque Fest 2013 at the Dubuque County Fairgrounds. Here is a sample of a vintage Watson song, I Lie When I Drink. Great Job Editing Lexie Apel, DreamCatcher Productions Intern.

Dale Watson was the featured musical act on June 24, 2013 for David Letterman. We like our live version better.

Tony Scherrman will be donning his father's Ghost Player suit once again to join the guys out on the Field of Dreams!
