COOPERSTOWN SELECTS IOWA MOVIE 09.01.09
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum has selected the movie “Ghost Player: Relive the Magic” for the 4th Annual Film Festival. The Festival is a showcase of newly released films of any genre with a baseball component.
“Greetings from Cooperstown and congratulations! Your film has been selected for the 4th Annual Baseball Film Festival, held at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum,” Stephen Light manager of museum programs wrote in his letter to producer/director Joe Scherrman of Dyersville Iowa.
GHOST PLAYER is a one-hour documentary that chronicles the adventures and misadventures of a boisterous and unlikely team of middle aged baseball players. In 1989, Hollywood went to Iowa to shoot the movie “FIELD of DREAMS”. Little did anyone know this blockbuster would spawn a comedic baseball show starring local ballplayers that would have an 18 year run and travel the world.
As a production assistant for the traveling team, Joe Scherrman would grab his camera to record moments of the adventures. He was capturing a unique part of American culture without realizing that the footage would be considered historically significant.
A collage of formats from over 600 hours of home and professional video taken since 1989 is skillfully crafted to tell the stories of the “Ghost Players”. The documentary is crafted work of cinematic art using specific pieces from the vast collection to tell the teams’ stories in an entertaining and inspirational manner.
Films will be shown on Friday evening October 2nd, Saturday October 3rd, and Sunday October 4th in the Hall of Fame’s Bullpen Theater in Cooperstown, New York. “Ghost Player” will be shown Sunday October 4th at 1:00pm with 15 minutes allotted after the film for a question and answer session.
Members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum may reserve tickets starting Monday, September 7, and any remaining tickets will be available to non-members starting Monday, September 28, by calling the Membership department at 607-547-0397 or visiting the membership desk in the Museum. A complete schedule will be released as the Film Festival approaches.
