Fun, Fall, Film Festival - Driftless Here We Come!
We are in the early days of autumn, the vistas and bluffs will be blazing with the bright colored foliage typical of this area. Natural splendor combined with splendid films, tasty beverages, and good people. How about an afternoon touring through the beautiful southwest WI area this coming Saturday, Oct 8th?
The Driftless Film Festival is presenting several baseball-focused films including Ghost Player: Relive the Magic. It's screening at the Avalon Theater. They serve beer and pizza, so lets grab some lunch there before the show.
We could watch the Ghost Player movie and the short film called HITS. Then head to Mineral Point for eats/refreshments and at 4:30 catch the movie BALLHAWKS, narrated by Bill Murray. BALLHAWKS is a new feature-length documentary that tells the story of diehard baseball fans that patrol the streets outside Wrigley Field. It will also have the short film OFF INTO SPACE. We could be back in Dubuque, IA before 6:30.
The movies are roughly $7 for each feature/short screening or you can buy an all-events pass for $22, if you want to go to all the events connected with the festival.
The Driftless Film Festival is a new regional film festival with a focus on independent films from around the world. Its mission is not only to bring unique cinema to Driftless residents, but to encourage people from outside the Driftless area to come discover its many historic theaters and venues while experiencing one of the most unique and beautiful regions in the Midwest. DFF will take place in Baraboo, Mineral Point, Platteville, Richland Center, Spring Green and in Viroqua on October 6–9. Filmmakers and actors will be on hand for nearly every film at this year's festival.
Nicholas Langholff, a Madison-based independent film producer and actor Darren Burrows, best known for his role as Ed on NORTHERN EXPOSURE, founded the DFF to increase interest in independent films and to enrich the movie-going experience by providing face-to-face interaction with the filmmakers. Darren also appeared in Steven Spielberg's AMISTAD, along with roles on TV's CSI, X-FILES and NYPD BLUE. Nick has an impressive resume of films that he has worked on, including FEED THE FISH and TV documentary Series, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE.
