And the Oscar goes to . . . Dubuque?

Well, at least last year's Oscar-winning documentarian and National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos will be coming back to Dubuque.

On Saturday, November 27, 2010, Louie Psihoyos will speak on film-making when he returns to his hometown of Dubuque, Iowa. The Great River Film Initiative in partnership with, the Dubuque County Historical Society, and Loras College Arts and Culture Series, invite filmmakers and enthusiasts to come hear this innovative, globally-renown photographer and filmmaker at Loras College's St. Joseph Auditorium, Hoffmann Hall (under the clock tower on Loras Boulevard). The event will include a discussion of his career and experiences as a world-class filmmaker, and Psihoyos will answer questions from the audience. Psihoyos will be present for this first "Oscar on the River" event thanks to a grant from the Mediacom Arts and Culture program and with the assistance of the Northeastern Iowa School of Music.

The Oscar on the River event will also kick off an initiative by the Dubuque County Historical Society to encourage local film-makers to consider creating short-format, local-history, documentary films about Dubuque and her people, past and present.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Loras bookstore.
